I have to admit, I have a super sensitive gut to where even after a bad night’s sleep my gut just feels off. I have been making this bone broth soup almost every week for the past month just for the digestion and gut healing benefits. There is truly no right or wrong way to make this broth, I simply just threw in whatever I had in my fridge and voila! This broth is exceptionally perfect for those cold winter months (even in Florida) because our bodies are actually meant to eat seasonally! When it is cold outside our organs crave warmth and let me tell you, you’ll feel the healing warmth in every sip.
Each ingredient serves a purpose:
Bone Broth- Collagen and amino acids proline, hydroxyproline, glycine, and glutamine for healthy skin and joints. These compounds reduce inflammation in the body (mainly the digestion tract) as well as promote the growth of good bacteria in the gut and fight sensitivities! AKA repairs that gut lining!
Mushrooms- Selenium, zinc, phytochemicals, and B vitamins AKA immune system!
Onion- Vitamins C, B6, B1, and K, biotin, chromium, fiber, and folic acid
Celery- Phytochemicals useful in cancer prevention, potassium and sodium (electrolytes supporting detoxification), B vitamins, and folic acid
Carrot- Carotene, vitamins A, K, C, and B6, fiber, biotin, potassium, and antioxidants that protect against cancer and cardiovascular disease
Bok Choy- Cruciferous vegetable (very nutrient dense), decreases inflammation in the body, protects cells from DNA damage and inactive carcinogens AKA Cancer fighting, antimicrobial, and strengthens bones
Ground Turkey- Protein, selenium, niacin, zinc, B vitamins, high in tryptophan (building block of the brain compound serotonin)
Turmeric- Anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, enhances the body’s production of cancer fighting compounds such as glutathione, promotes liver detoxification, and brain protecting
Sea Salt- Trace minerals, helps to balance fluids and prevent dehydration, alkalizes the body, and promotes brain, muscle, and nervous system function
Black Pepper- Cancer fighting alongside turmeric, protects the liver, antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and helps to protect the gut due to the compound Capsaicin
